The year 2024 is drawing to a close, and we’ve taken this as an opportunity to pause and reflect. Throughout the year, we've kept you updated with our sustainability messages, offering insights into our projects, initiatives, and goals in social and environmental responsibility. Discover what we’ve achieved this year in the area of sustainability. We’re also excited to introduce our current largest project— CO2 offsetting for our tours. Learn more about our certification process, internal projects, and how you, too, can contribute to sustainable travel. Together, we can lessen the impact on the environment even more. We think green and are committed to continuous improvement—sustainability is a lasting process. Be sure to check out our second sustainability report from July 2024 as well.

In addition to avoiding and reducing CO2 wherever possible, offsetting CO2 presents an opportunity to make a positive impact on our environment. That’s why we’ll be offsetting all our original tours starting with the 2025 travel season.

OUR PROJECTS

Our important CO2 offsetting project is complete:

CO2 Offsetting on our Original Tours 2025

Your active holiday by bike or on foot is already the most eco-friendly way to travel. However, COemissions are still generated, which we capture using the "Carmacal" CO2 calculator. The values are broken down into four components: accommodation, activity, transport, and catering.

On all our original tours, you will find this clearly presented, as shown here for example with our Altmühltal-Panorama-Path, Treuchtlingen – Kehlheim hiking tour. In this case, the COvalue per original tour and person is 214 kg of CO2  emissions, which we fully offset through our climate protection projects.

Offsetting with our climate protection projects

We fully offset the CO2 emissions of our tours through various climate protection projects within a fund called the Livelihoods Carbon Fund. Our focus is on supporting reforestation projects.

These projects aim not only to reduce COemissions but also to strengthen local communities and improve their livelihoods.

Whether in Senegal, Indonesia, or India – in all these destinations, our projects help to reforest the forests. An environmentally sustainable action that simultaneously promotes the social and economic well-being of the communities.

Our CONTRIBUTION FOR YOU

TRAVEL IN GREEN

Although arrival and departure methods are not a fixed part of our active travel offerings, we always strive to describe all available options for getting to and from your destination in a compact and helpful way in our travel documents. A conscious and sustainable approach to our environment begins with the choice of transportation for your personal journey. Make your journey sustainable as well, and contribute to nature conservation while starting your hiking adventure in a relaxed and environmentally conscious way.

YOUR CATALOG

Our new 2025 catalogs with many exciting travel inspirations have recently arrived. Here too, we use sustainable paper and eco-friendly coating to produce the print as environmentally friendly as possible. The resulting CO2 emissions are offset through our Climate Partner.

From OUR TEAM

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY TEAM ACTIVITIES

We not only offset our tours but also our team outings. For example, we recently implemented this during our company excursion. Additionally, we choose our internal team activities in a way that minimizes environmental impact: Whether it's hiking with dogs to our product management's mountain hut or taking an alpaca walk with our Eurohike travel specialists.

HIKING CHALLENGE FOR A GOOD CAUSE

Our goal was to do something good! As part of our 20th anniversary at Eurohike, we wanted to make a meaningful contribution. This led to the special #afterwork fundraising campaign. From April to July 2024, our employees diligently gathered hiking kilometers. For each kilometer hiked, we donated €2 to the "Kinder haben Zukunft" (Children have a future) organization. Our goal was to raise €2,000. However, our dedicated employees far exceeded this target. Over 4,000 kilometers were hiked, resulting in an impressive donation of €8,000 for children. This allows many families who have unexpectedly fallen into hardship to receive support. Whether due to illness, job loss, or other misfortunes, the organization helps exactly where help is urgently needed. Read all about the hiking challenge and the donation handover in celebration of 20 years of Eurohike!

Our path to CERTIFICATION

Living sustainability within the company is simply part of our core values as an active tour operator. However, or perhaps because of this, we are constantly implementing new initiatives in every corner of our business. Sometimes, it’s not easy to share all our updates across our large Eurofun team. That’s why, in dedicated sustainability training sessions, all our employees have the opportunity to learn about the latest sustainability developments.

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL TRAINING

You never stop learning: Trainings and further education, both internal and external, are an important part of our Eurofun spirit and are integral to our daily work. Recently, our internal training sessions, tailored for our product management and sales teams, took place. In addition to many other topics, such as detailed information on our sustainability commitment within the company, everything about our certification, or details on the CO2 offsetting of our tours, the focus was on the content of our guidelines for accommodations, as well as for our buying and selling partners. This allows us to easily support our partners in becoming more engaged in protecting our environment.
