At the start and end of some tours we offer additional nights or extra days. Only with a few tours, extensions in each daily final destination during the tour are possible, provided they were added to the initial booking. Additional nights however can be added on at short notice and are always on a bed and breakfast basis only, exceptions (i. e. half board) are listed separately under ‘Prices’.
Changes of board and lodgings such as number of rooms, type of room and hotel category as well as general changes of reservations are possible with our original tours in principle up until 14 days before the start of the tour, subject to hotel availability. Charges applicable according to expenditure on our part.
We strongly recommend some form of travel insurance, at the very least a cancellation protection. On request and as part of your booking confirmation you can obtain details and documentation on the travel insurance options.
Yes, we offer various hiking holidays for families. With original tours small children of up to the age of 6 years are free of charge. Please contact the hotel for any extra charges regarding cots or any special dietary needs. Concessions: when travelling with children there are discounts on basic prices and additional nights as a third person in a double room with two paying adults: from 0 to 6 years 100%, from 6 to 12 years 50%, from 12 to 15 years 25%, from 15 years 10%.
Services of the hiking holidays
Info on services in travel & more
There is an exception to every rule. Our selected partner companies offer slight variations in their service-packages. As far as this is relevant for booking decisions, it will be pointed out under ‘Services’.
We endeavor to keep top service in our tours outside of Austria respectively. Nevertheless we cannot always have everything, i. e. breakfast may be less elaborate in southern European countries and punctuality and times given may be less reliable.
You will receive one copy of the route instructions for your walking tour per room. This package includes information regarding arrival and the tour in general (prospectus, sightseeing, time tables, etc.) as well as a list of the accommodations. Comprehensive route info like maps, route descriptions etc. are a given, in order for you to prepare yourself perfectly for your walking adventure. With our original tours you receive a route log. With some tours you will have a welcome briefing in the start hotel at your arrival where you will obtain all information (maps, route descriptions) there and then.

Tour outlines
Route outlines in the catalogue enable you an additional overview on the approximate route guidance of the tours. Nevertheless the course of the route as well as the daily end destinations are subject to flexibility for the actual tour sequence.
The tour sketches on the homepage or in the catalog give you an additional overview of the approximate route of the hiking tours. However, the course of the route as well as the stage locations and sightseeing destinations are not binding for the actual tour.
We offer luggage transfer between hotels. With our original tours there are no restrictions on how many pieces of luggage you can have. With some of our tours offered by a partner company only one or two items of luggage per person are transferred. Please kindly note, that any pieces of luggage heavier than 20kg will not be transported.
Please note that repeated loading can damage or put a lot of strain on the luggage. Please mind the terms and conditions of the tours. From time to time it is unavoidable to carry the luggage for the day, due to restricted or no access to accommodation or chalets in very remote regions.
It is top priority for us to accommodate you comfortably for your overnight stays in a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere after a long day of being on your feet. That is why we take great care in reserving hotels, B&Bs and guest houses which reflect this endeavor. With some tours we offer a choice of hotel categories, single rooms are often hard to get by, even within Austria but especially in southern destinations. Please take into account and check, when looking at the surcharges, that on top of the hotel price it also includes correspondence, invoice, travel and tour information. Despite the extra cost single rooms are often unfortunately less elaborate in the décor and situated in a slightly less convenient location within the hotel compared to double rooms.
Here and there, especially with trekking or Alpine tours, chalets or cabins are the best choice for accommodation in shared rooms with shower and toilet in the hall, in some cases also without shower. Nevertheless with this type of accommodation we are trying our hardest to book comfortable and characteristic chalets and cabins. Single rooms however are usually not available. Please find more detailed information in each individual tour description.
Equipment and weather
Infos about hiking in wind & weather
Unfortunately we are not able to guarantee sunshine, but of course we assume that you are lucky with the weather during your tour – as you do. Anyway, please take some precautions for days with cooler temperatures and the occasional rainy spell. An equipment list is enclosed to the travel documentation.
The key to a successful walking tour are great preparation and planning as well as a equipment that is suitable for the mountains. In your travel documents you will find an equipment list tailored to each individual tour.
A durable backpack that is comfortable to carry is part of the basic equipment of every hiker, with the right size and volume for the individual hiking tour. We recommend approx. 20 l for leisurely hiking tours and approx. 32 l for trekking tours where you carry your own luggage.
You can order suitable quality backpacks from Vaude from us on request: 20 l for EUR 50,- / 32 l for EUR 60,- / 40 l for EUR 70,-
