A panorama with a sea view emerges between the palm trees

La Gomera will captivate you with its breathtaking natural beauty and remarkable diversity during this enchanting eight-day journey. Hikers will fall in love with the lush, evergreen laurel forests of Garajonay National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Majestic ravines, charming villages, and stunning coastal views beckon for exploration. With its mild, pleasant climate and a well-maintained network of hiking trails, this island is a paradise for nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts alike. Savor the island’s unique charm, its timeless way of life, and the irresistible flavors of Canary Islands cuisine.

Your first hiking stage begins at Alto del Contadero, from where you'll walk through mystical forests and small villages to Hermigua. Enjoy the beautiful climate and the local cuisine before embarking on a circular hike to explore the stunning Agulo and the spectacular Vallehermoso. On day 4, you'll mainly hike downhill, with the Valle Gran Rey gorge offering breathtaking views once again. Your destination is the fishing village of La Calera, where you can treat yourself to a refreshing dip in the sea.

A rugged yet enchanting trail awaits you in the narrow gorge of Barranco de Arure, where your reward will be the mesmerizing waterfall. The next day, you'll set off on a scenic loop tour through Garajonay National Park. As you wander, dense forests give way to sun-drenched vineyards and lush orchards, ensuring a journey rich in variety. Breathtaking views of the island’s landscapes continue to unfold during your final stage, leading you to the majestic Roque Agando, a fittingly grand finale to your adventure.

  • Mystical flair in the Garajonay: Covering around 40 square kilometers and home to the island’s highest point, the park is renowned for its dense, evergreen laurel forests—among the last of their kind in Europe and a living relic of the Tertiary period. In 1986, the national park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its mystical atmosphere will soon captivate you!
  • Roque de Agando: This striking basalt rock formation is a remnant of volcanic activity that took place millions of years ago. Located near Garajonay National Park, it stands as one of the island’s most iconic landmarks. With its distinctive shape, the Roque Agando offers breathtaking views and is a favorite spot for photographers.
  • La Calera is nestled in the Valle Gran Rey, one of the island's most beautiful valleys. The village is characterized by its charming, whitewashed houses and narrow, cobblestone streets that gracefully cling to the mountainsides. La Calera offers visitors an authentic glimpse into traditional Canarian village life and serves as an ideal starting point for hikes into the surrounding mountains and valleys.

Hiking on this small Canary Island is defined by stunning panoramas, as you traverse narrow passages and navigate rocky terrain. We recommend being in good physical condition and having surefootedness for this adventure.

Day
01
Arrival in San Sebastián

In the morning, a transfer takes you to the Alto del Contadero. There you follow the PR LG 3 trail through dense laurel forests and a magical plant world. The trail descends steadily through a mystical jungle with moss-covered trees and giant ferns. In El Cedro, a hamlet with just 7 houses, you can stop off at the Las Vistas restaurant and then descend to Hermigua. This agricultural village has a reputation for having the best climate in the world.

Today's stage starts in one of the most impressive villages on La Gomera. The picturesque Agulo was named one of the 11 most beautiful villages in Spain in 2011. Ascent over the cliffs of Agulo to the Mirador de Abrante, a spectacular, overhanging viewpoint with views of the Pico del Teide. Through a rural area to the highest point of Cruz del Tierno. The descent then begins to the Roque Cano monolith, the landmark of Vallehermoso. A bus will take you back to the hotel.

Today's starting point is Las Hayas. Your route then takes you to Arure, where you will experience a spectacular descent through the palm grove of the Valle Gran Rey. In the upper part of the gorge, you will discover numerous herds of goats grazing peacefully in their enclosures. The further you hike down, the more small houses line up, creating an idyllic scenery that finally ends at the sea in La Calera. Small alleyways lead you through the former fishing village to Playa del Inglés, where you can take a refreshing dip after your hike.

From Valle Gran Rey, you start your hike up the gorge to the bohemian village of El Guro, where residents from all over Europe have made their home. Scenic slopes and imposing basalt walls accompany you to the Barranco de Arure. You follow the course of the stream and climb up the narrow gorge. The path winds its way from rock to rock until you reach an impressive waterfall. Return along the same river to Casa de la Seda and then downhill towards Valle Gran Rey.

After a cab transfer to Las Hayas, you hike northwards through the Garajonay National Park. The imposing laurel forests form a magical backdrop reminiscent of prehistoric times. The route gradually descends and you cross the Barranco de la Cuesta. After passing the Ermita del Carmen, the first cultivated areas with vineyards and fruit trees appear. You then circle the La Encantadora reservoir, which supplies the entire north of the island with water. Enjoy the rural idyll with its stone houses until you reach Vallehermoso.

From the village of Imada, your hiking stage on the PR LG 16.1. takes you across several gorges to El Azadoe. Through a landscape rich in palm trees, you will master the ascent to the deserted village of Benchijigua and on to the foot of the Roque Agando. At an altitude of over 1200 meters, this phenomenal basalt rock monolith rises majestically in the middle of the island and forms the crowning glory of this hike.
