Autumnal panoramic view of the Julian Alps

This diverse tour leads along mountain ridges on magnificent high-altitude trails and through lush green valleys. You will cross the Julian Alps with the famous Triglav massif and Slovenia's highest mountain at 2,864 metres. Again and again you will come across cozy huts with the typical Oberkrainer charm. The climate is very pleasant in this region, almost Mediterranean. You hike through a diverse landscape of flowers and alpine pastures, enjoying the breathtaking views on the panoramic paths. A highlight of this holiday is Lake Bohinj, framed by rugged and steep mountain peaks. On our hiking tour you can expect an interesting combination of mountain scenery, original villages and places of cultural and historical interest such as Bled.

You start your trekking tour in the Slovenian climatic health resort of Bled and can look forward to six impressive day tours. On the first day, the route takes you through the beautiful natural landscape to the Pokljuka plateau, where a regional ‘Brotzeit’ awaits you at the Lipanška koča hut. The next stage is particularly impressive – the hike to the Planika hut directly below the southern face of Triglav, the highest peak in the country. The following treks are equally spectacular and take you to the Seven Lakes mountain hut, on to the Komna hut and past the Savica waterfall to Ribčev Laz. On the last day of your individual hiking tour, you can hike into the Bohinj valley or relax and review your trekking holiday at the beautiful Lake Bohinj.

  • Peace and tranquillity in the Alps: On this trekking tour in the Julian Alps, wonderful moments of tranquillity await you. The overnight stays in idyllic mountain huts and the fantastic views of the Triglav, Slovenia's highest mountain at 2,864 metres, are particularly rejuvinating.
  • Refreshment in the Schwarzsee: On the fifth day of your hiking tour, the route leads you to the Schwarzsee at 1,325 metres above sea level. This lake is one of seven Triglav lakes and reaches water temperatures of up to 22 degrees in the summer months – a perfect refreshment for hikers.
  • Sweet treat at Lake Bohinj: In Ribčev Laz at Lake Bohinj, be sure to try the regional specialities made from honey, such as sweet honey liqueur, honey wine, honey schnapps and many other products made from honey, such as propolis.

Our multi-day high-altitude hike in the Julian Alps is assigned to our level of hiking 'Trekking'. Daily stages of between three and seven hours await you on this demanding tour. We recommend sturdy shoes, surefootedness and a head for heights, as well as good physical condition. However, the magnificent views and wonderful moments of tranquillity are guaranteed to reward your effort.

Itinerary at a glance

Unwind in the Julian Alps where you'll stay in mountain huts and hike on panoramic trails through alpine landscapes. Don't miss a honey tasting in Ribčev Laz and a swim in Lake Črno, also known as Schwarzsee.

Idyllic Bled with deep-blue lake and Triglav national park is inviting for an exploration in the evening. You should taste the regional cuisine.

Transfer to Mrzli Studenec at Pokljuka high plateau (1.280 m) – starting point of many walking tours in the Julian Alps. Your first walk leads through spruce forests and broad alpine meadows. Climb to Lipanška koča hut and stop for a tasty meal. In the afternoon walking tour on a panorama path.

Today you reach the heart of the Julian Alps – at the foot of the highest peak in Slovenia, onto Triglav. Along a slightly climb up to Vodnik hut. Aim of the day is Planika hut, located directly at the south wall of Triglav. The hut is ideal starting point for a climb onto Triglav (additional night and alpine experience necessary!).

Walk over the Hribarice pass (2.358 m) in direction Triglav Lakes. Enjoy the wonderful beauty of the seven lakes in Triglav national park. Along a broad path a wonderful view over the valley with its lakes is awaiting you.

Hike further to the West, where you will soon reach the lake Schwarzsee, the deepest lake of the Triglav lakes. The lake is warm and has a unique flora and fauna. You can enjoy a beautiful view of Lake Bohinj from your overnight accommodation, Komna hut.

From Komna you walk along the old military street to waterfall Savica, a well-known and popular waterfall in Slovenia. An alpine karst spring feeds the waterfall which has a length of 78 m and runs into mighty Bohinjer Lake. Short walk along the waterside. In the summer the lake invites for a bath in crystal-clear water. You stay overnight at the eastern bank of the lake, in the friendly village of Ribčev Laz. Try one of the local bars with tasty mead or homemade snaps.

Today you have time to enjoy the lake, or you can lace up your hiking boots once again and hike into the upper Bohinj valley. Through idyllic villages you will climb the hill Rudnica, which dominates the valley. At the end of your trip, enjoy the view of the lake and the mountains around you.
