Julian Alps & wild soča valley

Triglav National Park, Crystal-Clear Lakes, and Turquoise Soča

8 Days / 7 Nights
Mountain Hiking

The Julian Alps are a paradise for nature lovers and adventurers. In the heart of the region lies Triglav National Park, where majestic peaks rise above dense forests and crystal-clear lakes. Lake Bohinj captivates with its tranquil beauty and pristine nature, while Bled, with its picturesque lake, famous island church, and hilltop castle, is a popular destination. Here, stunning landscapes meet cultural treasures. A standout highlight is the turquoise Soča River, whose distinctive color and purity captivate both hikers and water sports enthusiasts. Along the river, you’ll encounter breathtaking waterfalls and deeply carved gorges that resemble natural masterpieces. Whether you're hiking through verdant forests, swimming at the “Caribbean” beaches of the Soča, or enjoying the serenity of the clear lakes, you'll be in close contact with unspoiled nature.

Itinerary at a glance

Conquer the dramatic Vršič Pass or the rugged Pokljuka Plateau, plunge into the crystal-clear natural pools of the Soča River, and immerse yourself in the enchanting scenery of Bled and the breathtaking Lake Bohinj—prepare for an exhilarating journey full of thrills and discovery!

Explore the small town on the shores of the glacier lake at the edge of Triglav National Park, featuring a castle perched high above and the famous island in the middle of the lake. This is the quintessential photo opportunity of Slovenia.

A transfer will take you from Bled to Kranjska Gora, where you'll start at the picturesque Jasna Lake, whose clear waters reflect the surrounding mountains. From there, you'll ascend to the Vršič Pass, the highest mountain pass in Slovenia, where you'll be greeted by breathtaking mountain panoramas. On the descent to Trenta, you can explore the Soča Spring, where the crystal-clear waters of the river begin and flow into the turquoise Soča. It's an unforgettable hike through one of Slovenia’s most stunning landscapes.

On the so-called Queen Stage in the Soča Valley, you'll cross several suspension bridges that offer spectacular views of the sparkling river. Along the way, you'll encounter the impressive Soča Gorges, natural pools carved into the rock by the river that are truly awe-inspiring. Especially on hot summer days, dipping into the cool waters of the Soča is a real highlight. Bovec, the destination of your hike, is a well-known spot for outdoor enthusiasts.

At the start, you'll encounter the mystical Virje Waterfall, a hidden natural wonder amid lush vegetation, followed shortly by the mighty Boka Waterfall, one of Slovenia's highest and most powerful waterfalls, with its waters thundering down into the depths. Continue through dense forests and along the Soča River, passing numerous picturesque swimming spots and impressive natural scenery, until you reach the charming town of Kobarid.

In the morning, a transfer will take you to the Most na Soči train station. Sit back and enjoy a scenic train ride through the beautiful valleys of the Julian Alps and across Slovenia's longest railway bridge. From Bohinjska Bistrica, the journey continues through the picturesque Bohinj Valley, passing fields, meadows, and traditional Slovenian farms, leading to the charming Bohinj Lake. Marvel at the mountain backdrop surrounding the lake or visit the lovely church by the lakeside.

From the shores of Lake Bohinj, you'll ascend to the heights of the Pokljuka Plateau, a vast area renowned for its spruce forests, meadows, and biathlon arena. The trail takes you through charming small villages and dense woods, offering views of the Bohinj Valley and the surrounding mountains. Along the hike, traditional shepherd huts invite you to rest and enjoy local delicacies. Once you reach the top, you'll spend the night immersed in nature, breathing in the refreshing, clear mountain air.

From the plateau with its expansive meadows, you’ll hike down varied trails to the mysterious Pokljuka Gorge. After the descent, you'll reach Bled, famous for its lake, historic island church, and castle. Alternatively, instead of descending directly, you can climb the summit of Viševnik, which rises over 2,000 meters. You'll be rewarded with a fantastic panoramic view of the Triglav Massif, the Karawanks, and the surrounding Alpine peaks. Afterwards, you'll take a shuttle bus to Bled.
