Malta and Gozo

Historical treasures and impressive coastlines

8 Days / 7 Nights
Walking
Cliffs of Malta

Explore Malta, the ‘sanctuary’ in the Mediterranean, on hikes through breathtaking landscapes and historical sites. Situated between Sicily and Tunisia, the island reveals a rich history, shaped by Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs and Knights of St John. Megalithic temples, Roman baths, medieval palaces and baroque churches characterise the area. Your hikes will take you from the dramatic cliffs in the south to the sparkling bays in the north and on to the idyllic island of Gozo, home to the legendary nymph Calypso. Experience the magic of Malta on foot and on the water - a perfect blend of nature and history.

Itinerary at a glance

Both islands offer you highlights: Colourful coastal paths, impressive Neolithic sites and a fascinating mix of Arabic, Italian and English culture are waiting to inspire you.

Enjoy the first Maltese sunset over the sea on the north-west coast of Malta.

Transfer to the enchanting Golden Bay. You follow the historic Victoria Lines fortress line along a coastal path. From this ridge you can enjoy breathtaking views over the entire Maltese landscape. The hike ends in the centrally located town of Mosta, famous for its church with its huge dome. The return to the hotel is by bus.

A transfer will take you to a viewpoint to admire the magnificent Blue Grotto. Then it's off to the megalithic sites of Hagar Qim and Mnajdra, where you can immerse yourself in Malta's fascinating history. The walk takes you along a beautiful coastal path with the opportunity to swim before you marvel at the 200 metre high Dingli cliffs. Then it's off to the verdant Buskett Gardens. A bus ride takes you to Mdina Rabat, the old capital of Malta, which reflects the entire history of the island with its rich architectural heritage. Finally, transfer to Mellieha.

In the morning, you will be taken to the landing stage at Cirkewwa. This is followed by a leisurely 30-minute ferry crossing to the island of Gozo. An unforgettable coastal hike to the famous Calypso Cave at Xaghra awaits, offering legendary views and a mystical atmosphere. Along the way, there are refreshing swimming opportunities at the beaches of Dahlet Qorot, San Blas Bay and Ir-Ramla. This day combines the beauty of the sea with exciting excursions into the green interior - a varied adventure on Gozo!

Bus journey to Victoria, the charming capital of Gozo, known for its citadel and the cathedral with its beautiful trompe-l'œil dome. You leave the village of Sanat and hike along the spectacular cliffs of Ta Saguna. In the rocky bay of Xlendi, famous for its Roman shipwrecks, the clear water invites you to swim. From Wardija's Point there are beautiful views of Gozo's natural wonders, such as Fungus Rock, the ‘mushroom rock’ with its legendary healing powers. Finally, transfer back to Xaghra.

Transfer to the tranquil village of Gharb, located in the north-west of Gozo. From the impressive Ta Pinu church, you walk along the steep cliffs and through deep bays. There are many opportunities for swimming breaks along the way. The old salt pans in the rock, which spread out like a huge coastal chessboard, lead you to the picturesque seaside resort of Marsalforn. You then head inland through idyllic agricultural areas before reaching your destination in Xaghra.

In the morning, transfer to the harbour of Mgarr, where a 30-minute ferry ride to Malta awaits you. This is followed by a taxi ride to Sliema. From your hotel in Sliema, you can reach the heart of the city of Valletta either by public bus or a short ferry crossing. Explore the cultural heritage and fascinating monuments of the Order, such as the Grand Master's Palace, the Knights' Hospital and St John's Cathedral. From Valletta harbour, you can also explore three other knights' towns on exotic boats.
