Hiking Paradise Liechtenstein

Big little country

6 Days / 5 Nights
Walking
Mountain in Malbun

Liechtenstein may not be large in terms of area—you could likely walk across it. However, the mountain peaks are tall, and the princely castle is impressive. The capital, Vaduz, is a charming little town near the Swiss border. From here, you can hike to mountain huts and across pastures, to lakes and along trails. Along the way, you can enjoy the stunning views and the unique charm of this special country.

Taste the exquisite wine from the princely vineyards as you wander through the charming, scenic streets. The Liechtenstein Trail guides you from the majestic princely castle to the historic ruins of Schalun Castle and on to Triesenberg, with a bus ride back. On the next leg of your adventure, follow the Via Alpina to Sücka Alp and Gänglesee. Your journey leads to the enchanting village of Malun, where breathtaking views of the surrounding summits greet you.

On the next day, embark on a thrilling adventure as you make your way to the summit cross of Schönberg. Ascend along scenic trails, and after your efforts, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking vistas of the Swiss Alps and Lake Constance. The Fürstin-Gina Trail serves as the grand finale of this hiking journey, beginning with a cable car ride to Sareiser Joch. Along the way, pause at Augstenberg and Pfälzerhütte, before reaching the stunning highlight of Tälijoch, where nature's beauty unfolds around you.

  • Charming mountain villages: The crisp mountain air, picturesque views, and cozy village atmosphere make Malbun an ideal retreat where you can wonderfully leave the everyday hustle behind. Additionally, its idyllic location at 1,600 meters in the Alps offers the perfect blend of tranquility and adventure, no matter the season.
  • The Castle overlooking the capital: An outstanding landmark is Vaduz Castle, which towers prominently over Vaduz and serves as the residence of the princely family. Built in the 12th century, the castle offers impressive views of the Rhine Valley and the surrounding Alps. Although it is not open to the public, its striking silhouette attracts many visitors. The city center of Vaduz, in turn, offers numerous museums, art galleries, and cozy cafés.
  • Warm hospitality and regional cuisine in the Pfälzerhütte: Perched at an altitude of 2,108 meters, the hut offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. It serves as an ideal starting point for alpine tours and hikes, such as the trek to Augstenberg.

You'll cover a maximum of 14 kilometers each day, with trail lengths suitable for hikers of various skill levels. Since most of the hikes are loops, you'll return to the same accommodation multiple times. As you'll be traversing alpine terrain, it's essential to have not only good gear but also solid footing. Included in your travel package is the Liechtenstein Pass, which grants free or discounted access to many activities.

Although the Principality is one of the smallest countries in the world, it packs a punch as a hiking destination! With its towering peaks and picturesque trails, Liechtenstein beckons you to explore its breathtaking landscapes and embark on an unforgettable hiking holiday in Liechtenstein.
