View of the inhabited rocky coast by the sea in Amalfi

Amalfi - one of the most beautiful coastlines of the world. During the Roman Empire the region already was famous for the fabulous landscape, the pungent scent of flowers and lemons, turquoise sea, idyllic coves and lush vegetation. You walk along this wonderful coast, as well as through the contemplative hinterland, always with view to the sea. Medieval villages, terraces, forests and mountains stretch between the overnight places Agerola, Amalfi and Praiano.

Legendary gorges, such as those of Furore or the “Valle dei Mulini” are among the absolute highlights of the hiking holiday. Medieval ruins, old monasteries and the picturesque town of Ravello are well worth a visit. The icing on the cake of the hiking holiday on the Amalfi Coast is the Valle delle Ferriere nature reserve.

  • Valle delle Ferriere Nature Reserve: Take enough time to explore the spectacular waterfalls and unique natural monuments.
  • Via dell’Amore: The ‘Path of Lovers’ is lined with breathtaking panoramic views.
  • The Path of the Gods: from the monastery of San Domenico to Nocelle and Montepertuso. According to legend, Zeus, the father of the Gods, walked here.

Once you arrived in Agerola, a hike to the panoramic mountain Monte Tre Calli opens the tour. On your journey you will pass the Santa Barbara Grotto and the Furore Gorge. Discover the town of Amalfi with its monasteries steeped in history. In Pontone, visit the Torre dello Ziro and look down on the entire coastline with a scenery to die for. Then you pass through romantic towns before you reach the Santa Rosa Monastery dating back to the 10th century. The Path of Lovers takes you on the trail of the green valley to Praia. Then walk the pilgrimage route to San Domenico and follow the Path of the Gods. On this hiking holiday, you walk around four to five hours every day. Tours almost start at sea level and climb 250 to 800 metres in altitude every day. Sure-footed hikers have a clear advantage on the route along the Amalfi Coast.

Itinerary at a glance

With a view of the sea, you hike along the Amalfi Coast to Monte Tre Calli, the Furore Gorge and the waterfalls in the Valle delle Ferriere. Ancient mill ruins contrast with fashionable Positano - an ideal combination!

Arrival in Agerola/Bomerano

You walk through lovely scenery up to Monte Tre Calli, with scenic views across the surroundings.

Following an old mule-trek you walk along the grotto of Santa Barbara through a narrow, cave-like valley with view to the turquoise sea and the gorge of Furore. Continue to the town Amalfi, where you can visit monasteries, churches and beautiful squares.

Continue your walk from Amalfi to Pontone, where you visit Torre dello Ziro. From here you enjoy scenic views to Amalfi, Atrani and the whole Costiera Amalfitana. On your way the visit of “Valle dei Mulini” is worth it. This is a very romantic canyon with ruinous mills from the medieval ages. Then you continue walking to the little town Ravello and down to Atrani, a little village that retained the same ambience as 500 years before.

Take the bus to Scala. Walk on a ridge into nature reserve Valle delle Ferriere. Water falls, tranquil resting places and many scenic viewpoints are on the way. Along medieval Pogerola you return to Amalfi.

By coach to Conca dei Marini. Starting at the monastery  Santa Rosa (10th century.) you walk down to Marina di Furore. Along the path of the lovers „Via dell’ Amore“ you walk to the green valley Praia. Picturesque Praiano is your target of today.

Walk along the pilgrim path to the monastery San Domenico. Continue walking on the „path of gods“ where Zeus is said to have walked, to Nocelle and Montepertuso. Here you continue down valley to Positano.
