Coastal panorama with broom

Cornwall based in one hotel

Caribbean flair and British charm

7 Days / 6 Nights
Walking
Coastal panorama with broom

Seemingly endless sandy beaches, palm trees on the shore and the sun sinking into the sea as a red ball of fire. The southern flair is probably the biggest surprise that the county of Cornwall has to offer. This is due to the Gulf Stream, which ensures pleasant temperatures in the southwest of the UK all year round. But the coast also has its rough sides: Cliffs drop steeply into the sea and rocky steps and paths challenge even experienced walkers. The starting point for this walking week is the small coastal town of St. Ives. During the day, you will discover the most beautiful walks in this region. You will return to St. Ives reliably by convertible bus. In the evening, relax in a seafood restaurant or in one of the many pubs. Caribbean flair paired with British charm: you will only find this in Cornwall.

Itinerary at a glance

Easy hikes across meadows and beaches alternate with stages over rocky cliffs. The constant ups and downs in particular require a good level of fitness. You should be sure-footed for the rocky sections. Along the coast, you are sometimes exposed to the wind. There are bathing opportunities on the beach both en route and at your overnight accommodation.

The wild and colorful Cornish coast has inspired creative minds for many years. The many museums and galleries in the small town of St. Ives bear witness to this. Surfers dance off the coast, while those who prefer a more leisurely pace can stroll along the long sandy beaches. The many pubs and excellent restaurants are "very British".

A scenic train ride takes you to Leland in just a few minutes. After a visit to St. Uny's Church, which is well worth seeing, you walk back to St. Ives via beaches, dunes and coastal paths. Part of the route follows the pilgrims' path "St Michaels Way" to Carbis Bay. Then past well-tended front gardens with palm trees and flowers to Porthminster Beach. Circle the small peninsula "The Island" with the chapel on the summit. A perfect start to your walking tour.

In the morning, you will be taken to the coast of the North Cliffs. A wonderful hiking trail leads along the rugged, steep cliffs. With a bit of luck, you may spot seals far down in the bay. With a view of the lighthouse on the offshore island, you circle the headland of Godrevy and cross a nature reserve with numerous water birds. You reach the port of Hayle via beautiful dune paths and walk along the river to the town center. Return to St. Ives by bus.

After discovering the coast east of St. Ives on the first few days, you will follow the Coastal Path westwards from today. Today's stage is characterized by constant ups and downs along bizarre rock formations high above the sea, some sections are rocky and steep. But the effort is rewarded with fantastic views of the sea and the plateaus. At the end of the stage, you reach the small village of Zennor, where the church and pub are well worth a visit. Take the double-decker panoramic bus back to St. Ives.

By bus to Zennor and continuation of the coastal path along rocky cliffs with numerous ascents and descents. A colorful carpet of broom and orchids blooms in the meadows and provides the perfect splash of color over the blue sea. A stop at the sandy beach of Portheras is tempting, as are the benches at the panoramic square by the lighthouse. In the afternoon, discover the historic tin mines of Geevor with their characteristic chimneys. Visit the museum complex before taking the bus to St. Ives.

The royal stage of your journey awaits you today. The route offers distant views of rugged islands, lighthouses and shipwrecks. The Scilly Isles can be seen on the horizon. You reach Land's End - the most westerly point in Great Britain and come across - how could it be otherwise in England? - a pub and an ice cream store. The route continues past a variety of cliffs, rocks, bays and flowering plains. In the solitude of the plateau stands the coastal surveillance station, where you can learn exciting facts about shoals, storms, landmark orientation and the local wildlife. The Caribbean bay of Porthcurno welcomes you with its white sandy beach and turquoise-green water.
