Flowering alpine meadow with mountain scenery in the background

Nature paradise of Vercors

Mountain beauty as far as the eye can see

8 Days / 7 Nights
Mountain Hiking
Flowering alpine meadow with mountain scenery in the background

France’s largest Regional Natural Park is a paradise for nature fans, with its dreamy view of Mont Blanc and the seven mountain ranges of the Alps. You hike through open valleys with lush mixed forests of maple, beech and fir. The plateau offers unforgettable panoramic views, which are completed by white limestone rocks and large pastures where sheep graze.  Clear mountain streams are wonderfully refreshing. In spring and summer, a hiking holiday in the French Vercors is particularly beautiful. Then the green forests and colourful wildflower meadows are a real feast for the eyes. In autumn, the forests appear in bright shades of red and gold.

From Lans en Vercors, the route takes you via the Molière alpine pasture to Autrans. This is followed by a circular walk at Bec de l'Orient and on the Plateau de Gève. Later you hike from Autrans to Méaudre and over the Pass La Croix Chabaud to Bois Barbu. The circular hike through the abandoned settlement of Valchevrière and the plain of Herbouilly is also wonderful. From Bois Barbu, you trek back to Lans en Vercors. From there, more circular hikes await you before your hiking holiday ends.

  • Valchevrière: A historic village ruin in the Rhône-Alpes region. The hamlet was once inhabited by farmers and shepherds before it was destroyed in an attack. Only the chapel remains standing.
  • Des Col de l'Arc: The beautiful pass is easy to climb and offers excellent views of the Belledonne and L'Oisans mountains.
  • Moucherotte: The climb to this famous peak is well worth it. From an altitude of 1,901 metres above sea level, a magnificent view opens over the Isère valley, Grenoble and the Alps.
  • Gorges of Bruyant: You should definitely visit this fascinating place if you love mystical natural spectacles. Feel the energy of the mountain stream and the rushing waterfall.

This hiking holiday is suitable for both beginners and experienced hikers, as you can choose between easy or difficult routes each day. The daily hikes take up to seven hours, so a good basic level of fitness is recommended. Some sections require surefootedness.
