Gentle hills, blossoming apricot trees, the glittering Danube - can you see it in your mind's eye? It's easy to make this dream come true! Come with us on a hiking tour through the Wachau and actively experience the advantages of this infinitely beautiful region. One of the most wonderful landscapes in Austria awaits you on the 180km-long Wachau World Heritage Trail, as well as unique culinary delights and cultural highlights.
The approximately 35km-long Wachau tour begins at its eastern end in Krems. Our 5-day short trip also starts here. In addition to numerous highlights, there are also 20 palaces and castles that represent a unique relic from the past on the World Heritage Trail. The Göttweig Monastery and the Dürnstein ruins, for example, are worth a visit.
Even on day 3, you are guaranteed not to be bored. You can expect top-class products such as Austria's largest apricot-growing region. The Wachau is full of lovely villages, including Spitz on the Danube. The small village serves as a hiking destination on day 4.
Idyllic vineyard hikes: The stone terraces and vines are characteristic of the Wachau. Let yourself drift through the fragrant vines and find yourself in the process.
Discover the Danube on mountain ranges: We have long raved about the beautiful valley. But the best way to see the blue stream is from above. There are plenty of opportunities for this along the World Heritage Trail, for example, on the 671m-high Seekopf or on the imposing ruins of Dürnstein.
Culinary highlights: Delicious food is at least as much a part of the Wachau as the Danube. Already know? The Wachau apricot is of the highest quality and that is why its name is a protected designation of origin. Whether pancakes, dumplings or jam, the aroma of the small, orange fruit is simply a highlight.
Dreamy wine villages: The wines of the Wachau are divided into three quality categories: Steinfeder, Federspiel and Smaragd. On your way visit the characteristic wine cellars of the region and taste the fine wines. Incidentally, the tour includes a wine tasting - in this sense: cheers!
This trip is ideal for leisure hikers, as, in addition to the wonderful views, numerous wine taverns invite you to stop for a break. The hills in this area are not very high, but there are challenging sections. As an alternative, these can usually be replaced by more leisurely routes. An additional highlight awaits visitors in spring: the apricot blossom. The Eurohike package includes a boat trip from Spitz to Krems.

You walk mainly on good trails and some paved vineyard paths. Depending on the route, you can make the stages more comfortable or more challenging. The peaks in the Wachau region are not high, but steep in places. Surefootedness therefore is required in some places. This week offers a perfect blend of nature, culture and culinary delight.
