On this trekking tour in the World Heritage region, the Dachstein impresses with its double peak with a height of 2,995 metres. This is also the highest peak in the Dachstein mountain range, in the province of Upper Austria and Styria. The area is particularly well suited for trekking tours and offers wonderful opportunities for challenging hikes. The idyllic alpine landscapes and quiet valleys make for a peaceful break in the fresh air when trekking in the Salzkammergut.
On our trekking holiday on the Dachstein High Altitude Circular Path, all demanding, mountain-experienced hikers will get their money's worth. Over seven days, the route leads around the Dachstein and offers magnificent distant views, as well as impressive panoramas of the Alps and the picturesque Salzkammergut. What awaits you on the five daily stages? The 2,458-metre-high Bischofsmütze, the path to the Hallstatt salt mine, wonderfully fragrant mountain pine trees on the hiking trail to the Stoderzinken and regional delicacies at the Brünnerhütte. This trekking tour offers the ideal remedy to everyday life for all mountain lovers who long for a challenging high-altitude hiking tour.
Unforgettable mornings: Getting up early is guaranteed to be rewarded on this trekking tour. Experience the impressive dawn first hand and witness the fog lifting.
Varied panoramas and climatic zones: This hiking tour leads through different climatic regions. On the Dachstein you will experience the angular southern walls of the Dachstein limestone and enjoy the pleasant hiking air as well as the cool temperatures in the glacier region.
You start your seven-day trekking tour around the Dachstein with your own journey to Ramsau. The daily stages with a walking time of around six hours and a daily distance of around 17 kilometres offer plenty of variety. From magnificent views of the Dreiländereck, the morning waking up on the Gosaukamm or regional alpine specialities – the Dachstein High Altitude Circular Path will not lack nature or culinary delights.
Note: The demanding high-altitude trail requires good endurance and surefootedness.
From lush green alpine meadows over rugged rocks to the glacier region - this trekking tour has it all in terms of scenery! Whether on the Donnerkogel or Hochkalmberg, magnificent views and inviting huts accompany the hikes.
Short bus ride and hike up to the summit Sulzenschneid. Via the Linzer Path you cross the Alpine pasture area ‚Rinderfeld’ with all kind of cattle grazing. Then your route leads below the peaks along a high altitude path towards the impressive Bischofsmütze (mitre) and then to the foot of this well-known rock formation to the Hofpürgl hut, where a cosy evening in the hut awaits.
Anticipate an amazing morning mood on the mountain, followed by high altitude trekking with stunning views below the sharp ridges of the Gosau mountain. Then via Alpine pastures with grazing cattle all the way to the alp Stuhlalm, which invites to a break and to sample some of the home made produce. Below the peak Donnerkogel (summit ascent possible) to the Gablonzer hut with breathtaking views onto the Dachstein glacier and down into the Gosau valley and lake Gosau. Break and cable car descent to lake Gosau.
From Gosau the route takes you along forest paths via the alp Iglmoosalm to the hut of the Goiserer Alpine Club, situated on the mountain crest which offers stunning views onto the Goiserer valley and lake Hallstätter See. You have again the option of a summit ascent onto the mountain Hochkalmberg with the rock formation called ‚Stone Indian’. Descent via the Waldsteig to Bad Goisern on lake Hallstättersee.
After a short transfer the route takes you through the forest to the summit Hochmühleck. Via the summit to the Viehberg alp, where traditional huts invite to a break. A little bit towards the valley now and then once more through a remote karst and mountain pine area up to the Brünner hut situated on the Stoderzinken. You spend a recuperating night in the mountains directly below the sharp peak of the Stoderzinken.
Today you cross the high plateau of the Styrian Dachstein plateau. Through mountain pine and larch forests, past little mountain lakes you hike over solitary and vast karst and gravel areas upwards and down, heading for the majestic Dachstein. This high altitude trekking tour beneath spectacular summits and through untouched nature towards the mountaineer-station Guttenberghaus is the perfect final route of your week of trekking around the Dachstein!
Challenging high altitude paths with views onto the Alps and the Salzkammergut region. An ideal tour for hiking enthusiasts equipped with a good fitness level and surefootedness. Our tours mainly lead along hiking trails and you can expect walking times up to 7 hours.
