The 2024 Eurohike season review

Exploring the most beautiful hiking tours in Europe, hiking stress-free away from the crowds and travelling sustainably - that was the objective and the task that Eurohike set itself when it was founded 20 years ago. In the meantime, the hiking specialist based in Obertrum can look back on very successful years. Experience nature individually and actively, whether on an Alpine crossing or island hike, whether pleasure hiking, trekking or mountain tours, the range is wide.

The history:

• 1993: The sister brand Eurobike Cycling Holidays was founded under the umbrella brand Eurofun Touristik.
• 2004: Walking Holidays were introduced under the brand name "Eurohike" in a dedicated catalog, marking the inception of another highly successful branch of Eurofun. Destinations such as the Königssee, Zugspitze, and Salzkammergut remain revered as timeless wander classics to this day.
• 2012: Eurohike welcomes its 1000th guest.
• 2016: Eurofun Touristik expands its business premises for Eurohike.
• 2023: Eurohike wins the Stiftung Warentest test. The focus was on top organization, reliability and quality of the entire trip.
• 2024: Eurohike is celebrating its 20th anniversary and is enjoying increasing demand.

As part of our 20th anniversary, we wanted to give back. That’s how our special #afterwork fundraising campaign came to life. From April to July 2024, our team eagerly racked up hiking miles – all for a fantastic cause! We donated 2 euros for every kilometer walked to the organization "Kinder haben Zukunft." Our goal was to raise 2,000 euros. With over 4,000 kilometers walked, we raised an impressive 8,000 euros! It's an achievement that completely fills us with pride.

The organization "Kinder haben Zukunft" supports families who have fallen into hardship through no fault of their own. Whether due to illness, job loss, or other misfortunes, the organization steps in where help is urgently needed. Our partnership with them began last year when one of our team members discovered the organization at the Salzburg Christmas Market. After an inspiring conversation with the chairman, it quickly became clear that we wanted to establish a long-term partnership. 

Hiking tours are among the most eco-friendly modes of transportation, yet CO₂ emissions are still generated. These emissions arise, for example, from electricity usage in accommodations, heating or air conditioning, the production of food for your meals, and even the transportation of luggage.

To offset these emissions, we apply the following principle: Through measures that either remove the same amount of CO₂ from the atmosphere or prevent it elsewhere, we balance out the emissions. This includes reforestation projects for CO₂ sequestration or switching to renewable energy sources.

To calculate the ecological footprint, we use the CO₂ calculator "Carmacal," specifically developed for travel providers, and offset our CO₂ emissions through projects supported by the Livelihoods Carbon Fund.
